1st essay revised

You Should Want To Build Up Your Church

Emily just stands in a corner at the back of the church watching

everyone else clean. Matthew listens in awe as the guest speaker talks

about her volunteer work, but he never does any volunteering himself.

Ethan says he is a Christian but does not spend quality time with God

on a regular basis. Are you a contributing member of the body of

Christ? Are you actively serving God and sharing Him with others? Are

you contributing to unity within the body? Do you worship Him

regularly? Or are you one of those people like Matthew, Emily, and

Ethan that stand back and watch everybody else do the work? In this

essay I will tell you how you can help to build up the body of Christ.

First of all God’s word tells us that we need to share the gospel by

using the gifts that He has given us. 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 says

[“There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all.”]

Each of our gifts are unique and equally important. It is essential that

we all use our special gifts for building up the body of Christ. You could

do this by getting involved in your church. Maybe you are not the kind

of person to preach every Sunday. But His Word does instruct us to

use our gifts whether it be sharing God’s Word with unbelievers,

teaching Sunday school, being on the planning committee, being part of the worship team, cleaning the

bathrooms, etc. One gift is just as

important as the other. And the church will not run as well if you do

not use the gift that you were given. Don’t wait for someone else to

volunteer for the position, we all need to step up to the plate and do

our part.

Also we need to seek knowledge for ourselves so that we are better

equipped to teach others. We cannot teach others correctly if we

ourselves do not know what we are talking about. You could help gain

knowledge by reading the Bible, going to church, praying, going to

Bible studies, speaking with elders of the church, and so much more.

Let us all try to act more like Christ in everything we do. Do not be

just a “Sunday Christian”. Try to live your life as if Jesus were standing

right next to you in the flesh. Would you act any different than you do

now? I bet we all would. We as Christians need to be examples to

others believers and non. You could do that by being there to listen to

someone that is having a bad day. Teaching people about Christianity.

Even just being nice to others. Also look for ways to encourage and

praise others like it tells us to in 1 Thessalonians 5:19 [Therefore
encourage one another and build each other up.]

If every Christian did the above, it would not only build up and bring

unity to their home church, but it would also build up the whole body

of Christ, in turn glorifying God. It would also make for Christians that

are strong in their beliefs, and lead their everyday lives as examples to

others. Ephesians 4:15-16 says [“We will speak the truth in love,
growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of
his body, the church. He makes the whole body fit together perfectly.
As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow,
so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.”] So

think about it. Are you a contributing member of the body of Christ?

Are you actively serving God and sharing Him with others? Are you

contributing to unity within the church? Do you worship Him regularly?
